Vintage Apple Macintosh SE FDHD | Keyboard | Mouse | Working | 4 MB RAM | DisksThis computer was bought from a local garage sale. It was actually working when I purchased it (surprise).
I always like to go through each computer before passing it along. However, this computer is somewhat of an enigma. When I opened it and tried to remove the logic board, I noticed an add-on board stacked on top. I have tried everything I know to remove the logic board, but can not figure out the secret. Therefore, I haven’t been able to add a SCSI2SD drive, clean and lube the floppy or check the battery. However, everything is working and I can see a battery in the holder, just don’t know the age. I have determined the board must be an accelerator, as the computer boots to desktop in about 18 seconds, which is way faster than any other SE I’ve booted. Also, you can see the RAM is stacked in a different place than normal on the extra board (see last picture). I can also tell there is another board inside, simply from the weight of the machine.
This computer has the common yellowing you see on Macs that have seen quite a bit of sunshine. However, it definitely isn’t the worst I’ve come across. I would rate it as “average” for coloring. The front is much better than the sides. Please look at all the pictures.
Unit powers on with the familiar “ding”. After the Happy Mac Disk Face, the desktop loads and you will see the hard drive. I have added some more apps and games to the folders.
Apps include: After Dark, MacDraw, MacWrite, Microsoft Word, MacPaint, MAC 3D, MusicWorks and Speak (in case you’d like to sound like the late and great Stephen Hawking). There are some more, just not all listed. Please see picture.
Games Folder include: MacYahtzee, Star Wars, Prince of Persia, Tetris, Missile Command, Tetris, Lode Runner, Oregon Trail (Anna got bit by a snake!) Stratego, Checkers, Memory 2.0, Breakout, 3D Tic Tac Toe, IAGO, Hearts, the Zork Trilogy and more (please see picture).
Serial Number: F926DHRB02
The screen is clear (any waves or lines are from the refresh rate of my camera, not how screen looks).
This sale includes computer, power cord, keyboard with connection cord, mouse, original manual and three 800k floppy disks which have Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle on them. The floppy disks are disks that I have repurposed for you. You will need to boot off the disks to run either dark castle or beyond dark castle. The other items on the desk are not included in the sale.
Everything is in working order. All the keys function with the keyboard having good action and spring. All the feet under the Macintosh and keyboard are in tact. The clock, date, time and settings do NOT stay in the control panel, but After Dark is working, which uses the clock function.
I do not know the age of the battery.
Both ADB ports along with the external floppy drive port on the back have been tested and work. I have NOT tested the SCSI, printer, phone or external speaker ports. The brightness knob is working. The speaker leaves something to be desired, it almost sounds like it has a cracked cone. However, I cannot replace it, as I don’t want to damage the logic board trying to remove it. Those of you who have seen my prior listings know that I am a full disclosure and detail guy about what I sell. There are some scratches and nicks on the case, but it is free of chips and cracks.
