As a Commodore collector, these items have been in my personal collection for years but since space is an issue, its time to move these museum quality pieces to a loving home. I purchased these items from an estate sale many years ago in mint but non-working condition. I replaced all 16 memory chips in the C128 due to a common issue of degrading Micron RAM chips in this line of computers. I also upgraded the VDC memory chips from 16K to 64K chips in order to bring it to full compatibility with the 128D model. Both the power supply and motherboard have been re-capped using a capacitor kit available from Console5. Additionally, the RF modulator has been replaced with a SuperVideo_v2 Svideo board to separate the audio/video signals and cleanup display artifacts.
This modification does not alter the case in any way, it utilizes the existing composite output and channel select holes and replaces these ports with a more modern Svideo output and 3.5mm audio output jacks. The existing 8pin video port remains active, leaving the machine to appear in stock form. The audio/video output is noticeable cleaner when using a commodore monitor or an LCD display as shown. Vertical band lines are noticeably reduced when viewed on an LCD display. The motherboard metal shielding remains intact to keep the machine in original factory condition.
PCB repairs were undertaken utilizing professional soldering equipment. The keyboard shows no signs of usage at all and the plastic case shows no blemishes or other detractions. The matching 1571 drive needed only a head cleaning to return it to operating condition. The disk drive is in equally mint condition and also shows no blemishes and passes all read/write diagnostics.
Both the C128 and 1571 still have all of the
factory original screws remaining intact with no missing fasteners. The C128 has been fully tested in C128 / C64 /CP/M / 40/80 Column operation modes and the 1571 disk drive functions perfectly in GC
R, MFM,
CP/M and Burst modes
. Auction includes a power supply, disks, cables, manuals and cords as shown. Samsung LCD monitor pictured is also included with this auction along with S-video cable for a complete package. Note that 80 column mode cannot be displayed with this monitor without a video adapter which is not included but such adapters do exist. I did however fully test the 80 column mode on my Commodore 1080 and it works perfectly. Commodore factory boxes show some wear but contain the original s
tyrofoam and will be double boxed for shipment. Please note, this computer is 36 year old and is not returnable but I will assist the purchaser should there be issues.
