Description
You are bidding on a Vintage Nextcube computer and peripherals in unrestored condition. This is the computer that was made famous by steve jobs after macintosh and apple. This is a very rare system that is complete and has software and many hard to find accessories. The computer still powers on to UNIX prompt and the external SCSI drive has next Mach operating system installed. It is a vintage computer and will probably need a compete overhaul and restore. Although it powers on and functions some, I am able to get it to run some basic unix commands and boot sequence but I can not I can not seem to get the internal optical drive to boot or respond. Also the external cd-rom drive does not seem to power on, I hear a click after flipping the switch but that’s it. The floppy disc drive will not recognize or power on. Perhaps they have bad capacitors inside or something. This could be user error as I am not that experienced with these types of systems or Unix. These are also scsi drives so they need to be configured correctly to work. I was unable to get Nextstep interface to load, so it may need to be re-installed or something. I am pretty ignorant in the operation of this type of computer.
Anyways if you hook up the scsi drive to the cube it will just run in a repeating loop trying to connect to the network. It says”Harry can not connect to the network. the network is down and can not send multicall packet to 255.255.255.255 network is down” contact your administrator.
It includes megapixel display, next keyboard and mouse, microtech external scsi drive, next cd-rom model N3010 with cart tray, next cube floppy drive and next software discs.
The software is next vers. 1 and next vers.2 on optical disc, a double sided canon optical disc, floppy discs of mathmatica for next and Lotus improv for next computers. This software is very hard to find for this system. It also comes with scsi cables for the drives and I will also throw in a printed out list of some unix command prompts to hack around with.
I am selling this system for parts or repair, as stated it will need someone who knows these types of computers and how to configure them. It is being sold as is with no returns so please be sure you know what you are buying and have the technical ability to operate.
There are a few blemishes and scuffs here and there. The cd-rom caddy tray has broken clip on corner but should still function ok. the keyboard has some wear to the characters, the rubber on monitor feet has decayed away. The inside of the back compartment has a lot of powdery surface to the metal due to age/corrosion etc. It really is an antique at this point but is a fantastic piece of computer history. I believe the internet as we know it today was coded and created on a next computer. It would look
awesome on display in a computer museum just running in the loop. “help harry ...can not connect!” or it could be restored to original working order again.
