    Description

This is a fine example of Apple's continuing Motorola CPU upgrades to produce the fastest PowerBooks possible.  This PowerBook had a bunch of firsts for an Apple PowerBook and the computer industry overall.
The 500 series included several firsts: the first portable with a trackpad, the first with a PCMCIA (later PC Card) slot, the first with stereo speakers, the first with built-in ethernet, the first with an “intelligent” NiMH battery, the first with an expansion bay, and the first to automatically go to sleep when the lid was shut.
This example has the 68LC040 @ 25MHz CPU, the display is a
    9.5″ 640 x 480 84 ppi 8-bit dual-scan passive matrix COLOR display,
20MB of RAM is installed, a 1.1GB SCSI HDD, a 1.4MB floppy drive, a dead battery in the right bay, the left bay is empty, but can accept a battery or the very rare PCMCIA module.  The HDD has been reformatted and a fresh install of Mac OS 8.1 has been installed.  I have also installed some added utilities that are very useful.
Here's what I tested and know works:
    The CPU and memory
The 1.1GB SCSI hard drive (
reformatted, and a fresh Mac OS 8.0 and 8.1 update installed)
    The
    9.5″ 640 x 480 84 ppi 8-bit dual-scan passive matrix COLOR display
The SCSI input/output port (used to install OS 8.0 and 8.1 update and boot from another Mac)
Both sound input and output ports work
    Both speakers work
Printer/Modem Port (via AppleTalk) works between two Macs
All keyboard keys and trackpad work as expected
The Ethernet port appears to work via an Apple Ethernet M0437 Transceiver (not included), but not fully verified (the lights were both blinking)
The hinges and the latch work as expected.
This PowerBook is being sold AS IS and no returns will be accepted.  You will receive a 520c as described above and as pictured.  There is NO AC Adapter included.  You will need an Apple PowerBook AC Adapter Model No. M1893 to operate this laptop.
